Presentation To Parliamentarians

An important aspect of the ‘push’ for pardons has been a process of educating politicians about the petitions for pardons lodged in the House of Repesentatives and the Senate

On 25 May 2010, I presented my case to a number of MPs.  Feed back was very positive, as the support of the MPs is an important aspect of encouraging the British government to convene an inquiry.

The public can also assist in this case by contacting their elected MPs and the Prime Minister, Julia Gillard and encourage them to support the call for a fair and transparent process of review by the British government.

When these men were arrested, tried and sentenced in 1902, it was done in a secretive manner without any consultation with the Australin government. In a cruel and calculated manner, the British military ensured that the convicted men could not contact their government for assistance.  In 2010, it is time the Australian government and parliament to be consulted and have a say in the process to secure pardons for the men.

Welcome to my Breaker Morant Blog

A Search For Justice!

This Blog has been created as a means of educating the public about this case and to assist with my ‘push’ to get the convictions of Breaker Morant, Peter Handcock and George Witton overturned and the men pardoned for the crimes of which they were convicted by British Court martial in 1902.

This is an important case in Australia’s military history. It has been controversial as many commentators have alleged that the men were not given fair trials in accordance with the law of 1902.  Without any reference to the Australian government or any Australian legal process, Morant and Hancock, were executed by the British, without appeal.   Their appeal rights were frustrated and denied by a determined Lord Kitchener, the supreme military commander who ensured that the men could not communicate with their relatives or the Australian government. There has been much contention about the trial and the circumstances surrounding the trial.  The last words of Breaker Morant, ‘Shoot straight, you bastards—don’t make a mess of it,’ will continue to echo around the world a, because Great Britain did make a mess of the trial. The fact that the trial was not conducted properly means there is reason to overturn the convictions and grant pardons.

I am committed to getting justice for these men and for their descendants and I would like to invite you to be part of the process.
